چکیده
The study of acoustic signals in aquatic animals contributes to developing new monitoring systems based on passive acoustics and improves our knowledge their behaviors ecology. Here, the sounds produced by invasive species crayfish Cherax destructor possible role intraspecific interactions are analyzed. Synchronized video were used a tank record associated behavioral events (tail flips, number encounters, fights) states (velocity distance moved, angular velocity, duration fighting proximity). monitored seven layouts combining males (M) females (F) (F, M, FF, MM, MF, MMF, FFM). Both two types (high- low-frequency sounds). Grouped fewer than single animals. In grouped layout, more recorded when proximity (distance between specimen less 6 cm). not with specific event or state. emitted FF group M significantly higher those other layouts. Our indicates that non-accidentally provide baseline for future tests communication this species. This could help implement low-cost able identify negative effect its dispersion non-native environment.

Susceptibility of the Australian freshwater crayfish Cherax destructor albidus to white spot syndrome virus (WSSV).
Cherax destructor occurs naturally and/or is farmed in all Australian mainland states and territories and is of major cultural, economical and conservation significance. The aim of this study was to determine susceptibility of the commercially important subspecies C. destructor albidus to white spot syndrome virus (WSSV), a hazard to crustaceans and currently considered to be exotic to Australi...
متن کاملSocial control of unreliable signals of strength in male but not female crayfish, Cherax destructor.
The maintenance of unreliable signals within animal populations remains a highly controversial subject in studies of animal communication. Crustaceans are an ideal group for studying unreliable signals of strength because their chela muscles are cryptically concealed beneath an exoskeleton, making it difficult for competitors to visually assess an opponent's strength. In this study, we examined...

Systemic acid-base balance and osmotic/ionic regulation in decapod crustaceans are in part maintained by a set of transport-related enzymes such as carbonic anhydrase (CA), Na+/K+-ATPase (NKA), H+-ATPase (HAT), Na+/K+/2Cl- cotransporter (NKCC), Na+/Cl-/HCO[Formula: see text] cotransporter (NBC), Na+/H+ exchanger (NHE), Arginine kinase (AK), Sarcoplasmic Ca+2-ATPase (SERCA) and Calreticulin (CRT...
متن کاملFighting fit: thermal plasticity of metabolic function and fighting success in the crayfish Cherax destructor
1. We examined the effect of thermal acclimation on fighting success and underlying performance traits in the crayfish Cherax destructor . We tested the hypothesis that animals will be more successful when fighting at their acclimation temperature than at a colder or warmer temperature, and that changes in metabolic capacity underlie differences in behavioural performance. 2. Thermal acclimatio...
متن کاملEggs and hatchlings of the freshwater crayfish , ž / marron Cherax tenuimanus , can be successfully incubated artificially
The objective of this study was to test whether marron eggs and hatchlings can be incubated artificially with high levels of survival. Marron eggs were collected from 30 gravid females. The eggs from each female were divided into two replicate groups, and each replicate group was incubated separately within an artificial incubator until the eggs had hatched and developed into independent juveni...
